Polishing for metal structure inspection
In the final process of producing metal samples, polishing is performed similarly to the grinding for metal structure inspection.
Polishing for metallographic examination is divided into several stages, with the particle size of the abrasives used becoming smaller as one progresses to the next stage. Generally, this process is divided into three stages: preliminary polishing, intermediate polishing, and final polishing. In metallographic polishing, the sample surface is polished to a mirror finish until scratches and deformations are eliminated, allowing the fine structural organization of the metal material to be revealed. To achieve precise results, it is necessary to use appropriate consumables and polishing machines, and to select the optimal sample preparation methods and equipment settings for the consumables.
